ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Bases loaded in the first inning, none out and Toronto Blue Jays slugger Jose Bautista at the plate. A recipe for disaster for most pitchers. Especially a teenage thrower. But it turned into a day to remember for 17-year-old starter Ben Onyshko who managed to hold Bautista and his US$14-million annual salary to a sacrifice fly. The Winnipeg native got out of the inning without further damage and yielded just two runs on four hits over his three innings for the Canadian junior baseball team. "The experience of a lifetime," Onyshko said after leaving the game tied 2-2. The young Canadians took it on the chin after that. A Toronto Blue Jays split squad rallied for three runs in the fifth inning, four in the seventh and three in the eighth en route to a 12-2 victory over the Canadian juniors Tuesday under the sunshine at Al Lang Field. Onyshko, who has accepted a scholarship to Stetson University, said he tried to just focus on the task at hand in the first when Bautista came to the plate after two walks and a Moises Sierra single. "Ive got to admit my mind was racing a little bit," the left-hander said with a smile. "It was surreal." "I was scared for a split second when he (Bautista) hit the ball. Once I was able to get that first out, I think things started to roll a bit better. I settled in." Onyshko, who recorded one strikeout, had his parents and sister looking on in the stands. Jays starter Brandon Morrow, not helped by a Colby Rasmus error, gave up two runs on four hits. He struck out two and walked three. Morrow, who threw 47 pitches, was happy with his split-fingered delivered but called his command of the fast ball "terrible." "I was getting frustrated with myself out there, if you didnt notice," he said dryly. Morrow was followed by Sergio Santos, Steve Delabar and Aaron Sanchez. Onyshko gave way to Zach Pop of Brampton, Ont., J.P. Stevenson of Hunter River, P.E.I., and Isaac Anesty of Guelph, Ont. The Jays finished with 12 hits to seven for the Canadians, who were tagged with three errors. Delabar got the win and Sanchez the save while Pop took the loss. Toronto broke a 2-2 tie with three runs in the fifth off Pop, with Canadian Brett Lawrie sparking the charge with a double. A Canadian error helped the Toronto cause. Highly touted outfielder Gareth Morgan of Toronto singled, walked and struck out for the young Canadians. While other major league teams tend to put up prospects against the Canadian juniors, Toronto brought out some stars as well as a bevy of its own young Canadian talent. Bautista, Adam Lind, Rasmus, Dioner Navarro and Munenori Kawasaki were in a starting lineup that also included Canadians Lawrie (Langley, B.C.) and Dalton Pompey (Mississauga, Ont). Lawrie, who used to be part of the Baseball Canada program, was 2-for-3 on the day. Other Canadians who saw action for the Jays included Michael Crouse of Port Moody, B.C., Markus Knecht of Toronto, Justin Atkinson of Surrey, B.C., Mike Reeves of Peterborough, Ont., and Mike Nickeas of Vancouver. It was no ordinary spring training game. Players from both teams mingled for a group photograph in the outfield before the first pitch, with Kawasaki and Bautista sticking around for their own shot surrounded by the young Canadians. Bautista also gave the Canadian teens a pep talk. The Canadian juniors play in the fall instructional league against young major league talent before their spring series in Florida in March and April. This year, the Florida opposition includes teams from the Atlanta Braves, Baltimore Orioles, Detroit Tigers, Houston Astros, Philadelphia Phillies, Pittsburgh Pirates and Washington Nationals as well as the Jays. In May, the Canadians take part in the Dominican Summer League. The idea is to expose the young players to a professional environment and competition. The Canadian schedule is built around a qualifying tournament in Mexico in September for the 2015 world junior championships in Japan. Canada is bidding to become one of four teams to emerge from the Americas. With John Gibbons leading another Jays squad in Lakeland, Fla., against the Detroit Tigers, first-base coach Tim Leiper served as manager in St. Petersburg. Leiper has Canadian ties. He managed in the Montreal Expos organization, including a stint at the helm of the triple-A Ottawa Lynx of the International League in 2002. He also served as a coach on the 2004 Canadian Olympic team as well as Canadas 2006 and 2009 World Baseball Classic squads. He was part of the Baseball Canada staff that won bronze medals at both the 2008 and 2011 Baseball World Cups and gold in the 2011 Pan-American Games. Leiper joined the Jays coaching staff in the off-season after spending the past year as a special assistant to player development in the Toronto system. Michael Kors Black Friday Sale . "They defended well, were well organized, and we didnt find our zippy movements to play between the lines as we can," said Wenger, whose side lost 6-3 at Manchester City in its last game.On Sunday, TSN Hockey Insiders Darren Dreger and Bob McKenzie revealed their projected list of players who will be named to the Canadian Olympic hockey team on Tuesday based on information that they have right now. The pair also spoke to how P.K. Subban might deal with a reduced role on the team, the make-up of the Canadian defence and whether or not players currently on the fringes - like forwards Chris Kunitz and Martin St. Louis will make the squad. Hockey Canada announces its mens team for the 2014 Sochi Olympic Winter Games on Tuesday. You can catch full coverage live on TSN, TSN Radio and TSN.ca at 10am et/7am pt. Goaltenders: Carey Price, Roberto Luongo and Mike Smith Defence: (Left) - (Right) Duncan Keith - Drew Doughty Jay Bouwmeester - Shea Weber Marc-Edouard Vlasic - Alex Pietrangelo Dan Boyle (R) - P.K. Subban Forwards: (Left Wing - Centre - Right Wing) Logan Couture - Sidney Crosby - Steven Stamkos Jamie Benn - Jonathan Toews - Corey Perry Matt Duchene - Ryan Getzlaf - Claude Giroux Patrick Sharp - John Tavares - Rick Nash Patrice Bergeron - Martin St. Louis Fighting for Positions: Forwards: Eric Staal, Chris Kunitz, Patrick Marleau and Jeff Carter Defence: Mark Giordano, Dan Hamhuis, Marc Staal and Brent Seabrook Considering the minutes he logs and the role he plays for the Montreal Canadiens, can P.K. Subban be a seventh or eighth defenceman for Canada? Dreger: If you ask P.K. Subban, hell say absolutely - "Just name me to the team and Ill worry about where I fit in when we get to Russia and we start competing in the Games." But from a management or coaching perspective, Team Canada has to ask the question. Youre a big minute guy for the Montreal Canadiens - are you okay with being a bit player - if you will - not playing in games and being used sparingly if all the defencemen on Team Canada remain healthy? Again, I believe that the answer is yes. P.K. just wants to make this team. Back in the summer, Team Canada coach Mike Babcock said hed like four right defencemen and four left defencemen. Do you think it will end up that way? McKenzie: I think its likely that its going to be four lefts and four rights and that might be problematic for P.K. p;Subban or Brent Seabrook or Dan Boyle, one of the very good right defencemen.dddddddddddd. But I think this is what Mike Babcock wants. Now in the final analysis, do they maybe change their minds and go with two rights and go with Subban and Seabrook as your seventh and eighth defencemen? I suppose thats a possibility, but I dont think theres any question that Mike Babcock would prefer four lefts and four rights. Chris Kunitz is having a great year alongside Sidney Crosby and hes listed as "fighting for a position." Can he win over the decision makers? Dreger: I think he can, but its going to be a really difficult decision and the next round of decisions will be made on Monday. And dont be surprised if Kunitz becomes one of those players who is a final decision leading up to the announcement as late as Tuesday morning. Thats what its going to come down to. Statistically, hes made a very strong case. Is he better than Patrick Sharp? Is he better than Matt Duchene or Jamie Benn? And what happens, God forbid, if Sidney Crosby goes down? Can Chris Kunitz be as effective without No. 87? Steve Yzerman did not pick Martin St. Louis for the Vancouver Olympics in 2010, but now hes the general manager of the Tampa Bay Lightning and St. Louis has been a superstar for him. Is there any way he cant pick St. Louis? McKenzie: I cant imagine that Martin St. Louis is not going to be on this team and when I look at that right wing position and you see St. Louis competing for a spot, I can see possibly four guys ahead of him - Steven Stamkos, Claude Giroux, Corey Perry and Rick Nash. I believe that those four guys will be on the team, but I also think in the final analysis, with Stamkos out and St. Louis absolutely carrying the Tampa Bay Lightning, I cant imagine that Steve Yzerman can do anything but make St. Louis one of the 14 forwards. If thats the case and there are five guys on the right, then youve got seven guys - Logan Couture, Jamie Benn, Matt Duchene, Patrick Marleau, Patrick Sharp, Eric Staal and Chris Kunitz - with only four who can make it. Thats the kind of difficult decision that people will have to make. Hockey Canada announces its mens team for the 2014 Sochi Olympic Winter Games on Tuesday. TORONTO - Josh Donaldson estimates hes watched thousands of hours of Jose Bautista game tape, modelling his swing — right down to the leg kick — after the Toronto Blue Jays star right-fielder.The two became teammates in a late-night trade Friday, creating what Donaldson said could be the most potent lineup in Major League Baseball this season.I spoke to (Bautista) at the all-star game and let him know Ive studied a lot of his work, and really appreciate what hes accomplished up to this point in his career, Donaldson said on a conference call Saturday. The third baseman called Bautista one of the best outfielders and hitters in all of baseball.I feel like this team is going to be so talented, he said. Its going to be nice, and its also going to be interesting to see what happens because I feel like its going to be a pretty fun year. The 28-year-old was home simultaneously playing some old-school Mortal Kombat and watching the Golf Channel on Friday night, when his phone alerted him to the news. He was headed to Toronto in a shocking deal that sent Jays third baseman Brett Lawrie, plus shortstop Franklin Barreto and pitchers Sean Nolin and Kendall Graveman, to the Oakland Athletics. My phone started exploding. I decided to check it out, Donaldson said. The first text I see is Blue Jays I was like Yup, I just got traded. The 28-year-old Donaldson virtually came out of nowhere in 2012, and finished eighth in AL MVP voting this year after hitting .255 for Oakland with 29 home runs and 98 RBIs. A right-handed hitter, Donaldson had a .342 on-base percentage while finishing sixth in the American League with 76 walks. He has a career batting average of .268 with 63 home runs and 228 RBIs and a .347 on-base percentage in 405 games.Donaldson said the trade was a little bit ahead of schedule, but he hopes to bring a habit of winning to Toronto.Ever since I was five years old, my teams have won, the all-star said. Im not saying that its necessarily just me thats causing that, but I think theres a mentality about winning. I just hope to be able to come in and instil that winning mentality.Donaldson already had fond feelings for Toronto after making his debut in the majors here in 2010, recording his first major league hit, a two-run home run, at Rogers Centre.I remember Toronto was a great place, a great city, its just one of those melting pots, you kind of have a little bit of everything in Toronto, he said. Every time Ive been there its been very beautiful and Ive enjoyed my time there.Donaldson said he believes that the bold move by Alex Anthopoulos shows the Jays GM is determined to turn the team around immediately.Last week, Anthopoulos signed star catcher Russell Martin as a free agent.I 100 per cent can say theyre trying to win right now, Donaldson said. What theyre also trying to do is prepare themselves for the future, and Russell Martin has a long-term deal. . . With (Marcus) Stroman and a couple of guys on that staff, they have a young nucleus of pitchers who are very talented. So I definitely think the elements are there to win, its just about going out there and playing the game.Donaldson, known also for his sure-handed, athletic defending, said playing on the punishing turf of Rogers Centre could take some getting used to after the grass of Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum. He has a bit of experience with Torontos turf after playing a three-game series here. He switched up his cleats between hitting and playing defence, to help soften some of the pounding. It helped, because the third game I played there in a row, I was definitely starting to feel that I was playing on turf, Donaldson said. And then whenever I decided Hey, Im going to start changing my shoes from defence to offence, it really made a significant difference in how my body was feeling. So, its going to take some getting used to. I definitely believe that I can do it and I will do it. So I really think it will be a non-issue.Hours after the deal, Donaldson said he was still a little shocked. But I tell you what, he said. Somebody Id seen on Twitter or something the other day, somebody had put me in one of those Toronto Blue Jays uniforms, the all-whites, and I tell you what, those uniforms are pretty sexy.Lawrie, meanwhile, sent a note to Toronto fans via Twitter on Saturday. You fans made my time in Toronto unforgettable, the native of Langley, B.C., said in a note posted as a photo. I cannot thank you enough for allowing me to play in my own backyard with the (Maple Leaf) on my chest every day. It was a blessing and it will be truly missed!New chapter is upon me, he added, and I intend to make it worth it!!!!! Nike Air Huarache Triple Black For Sale . Coach Rick Adelman was playing him only as a matter of last resort despite a glaring need for help off the bench, and Williams was growing increasingly frustrated with the sporadic minutes.(SportsNetwork.com) - The Buffalo Sabres headed into the Christmas break playing their best hockey of the season. It was pretty much the opposite for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Catch all the action on TSN and TSN Radio 1050 at 7:30pm et /4:30pm pt. The Sabres will shoot for a fourth win in five games when they visit the struggling Toronto Maple Leafs in Fridays Atlantic Division battle at Air Canada Centre. Toronto lost seven out of nine heading into the Christmas break, but the club at least has managed to earn points in three straight outings. The Maple Leafs have gone to the shootout phase in each of their last three games, beating Phoenix on Dec. 19 before losing consecutive tilts against Detroit and the New York Rangers. The Maple Leafs seemed on the verge of a regulation defeat Monday in New York City, but they came up with a controversial goal after Rangers forward Chris Kreider was sent off for shooting the puck over the glass with 3:34 remaining in the third period. New York goaltender Cam Talbot appeared to cover up David Clarksons chance in-close on the man advantage, but the whistle never blew and Nazem Kadri alertly pushed the puck over the line to make it a 1-1 game with only 84 seconds to go in regulation. However, Derek Stepan and Mats Zuccarello each scored for the Rangers during the shootout, while Joffrey Lupul scored Torontos lone goal in the decisive segment. Kadri had a chance to extend the shootout for Toronto, but was denied by Talbot. Toronto fell for the ninth time in its last 10 road games despite a terrific 42-save performance from Jonathan Bernier. "Our goaltender stood on his head," Maple Leafs head coach Randy Carlyle remarked. "Thats all you can ask in a game like this one.&quoot; The Leafs are 12-8-1 as the home team this season compared to a 6-8-4 record on the road.dddddddddddd Although Buffalo is still last in the NHL with 23 points, the club has recorded four of its 10 wins this season over the last seven games. The Sabres latest victory, Mondays 2-1 overtime win against visiting Phoenix, came with a little bit of luck, as Buffalo was the beneficiary of a bizarre play in the extra session. Mark Pysyk fired a shot from near the right circle 3:47 into the extra session which was initially stopped by Coyotes goalie Mike Smith, but the puck bounced straight up into the air and was batted down by a Phoenix defender and landed in the back of Smiths pants. Smith, unaware of the disc wedged in his pants, turned and slid backwards into the net carrying the puck across the goal line for the game-winner. "I saw it come down and figured it landed. I didnt know where it went from there, but I saw he was in the net and figured it was in," said Pysyk. Tyler Ennis scored the game-tying goal 14:01 into the final session for the Sabres. Ryan Miller made 36 saves in the win. Although Buffalo has picked up the pace recently, the club still enters Friday on an eight-game road losing streak. The Sabres, who last won as the guest on Nov. 5 in San Jose, are just 3-12-1 on the road this season. The Sabres have not fared well in Toronto recently either, losing two straight and seven of the last eight encounters at Air Canada Centre. Buffalo, however, has won three of the past four meetings overall. Buffalo hopes to have leading scorer Cody Hodgson back tonight after the centerman missed the last two games due to an upper-body injury. Hodgson has eight goals and 11 assists to pace the Sabres with 19 points. MANCHESTER, England -- The two Manchester clubs slumped to shock defeats and Arsenal moved two points clear with a win at Swansea on Saturday, extending the unpredictable start to the English Premier League. Five months after capturing a 20th English title, Manchester United is languishing in 12th place in the 20-team standings after losing 2-1 at home to West Bromwich Albion in the latest setback to hit David Moyes troubled first season in charge. Amid its worst six-game start to a league season since 1989, United slipped eight points behind Arsenal after the London club beat Swansea 2-1 for an eighth straight away victory in the league. The only solace for United on an action-packed day was neighbour Manchester City enduring similar misery by sinking 3-2 at Aston Villa. With the Manchester giants showing fluctuating form, their rivals from London are taking full advantage. Tottenham is two points behind in second after drawing 1-1 at home to third-place Chelsea in an entertaining match that saw Fernando Torres sent off for the visitors. "Im concerned after todays result, but only because we didnt play well," said Moyes, whose team took another blow six days after losing 4-1 to City in the derby. "But there are a lot of games to go and Ill try to put it right." Even promoted teams Cardiff and Hull are above United after six games. Cardiff won its first away match of the season, 2-1 at Fulham, and Hull edged West Ham 1-0. But another newcomer, Crystal Palace, lost 2-0 at Southampton, which is adding to the surprise factor this season by sitting in fourth place. Sunderland is lodged to the bottom on one point ahead of Sundays game against Liverpool. Unbeaten Everton hosts Newcastle on Monday. Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey maintained his stunning start to the season by setting up Serge Gnabrys opener in the 58th then scoring himself four minutes later at Liberty Stadium. Ben Davies cut the deficit in the 81st but Arsenal held on and is confounding expectations. "We have a lot of quality," said Ramsey, who has scored eight goals in nine matches this season. "Weve had a lot of injuries recently but weve managed to dig in and put a load of wins together and hopefully now we get players back and were in with a shout (of winning the title)." West Brom fully deserved its first win at United in 35 years, with Saido Berahino clinching victory with a 67th-minute strike from the edge of the box that finished off a flowing team move. Wayne Rooneys free kick score cancelled out Morgan Amalfitanos stylish solo goal, but a United side missing several regular first-team stars with a Champions League match at Shakhtar Donetsk in mind struggled throughout. Moyes team hasnt scored from open play since the first day of the season. City was toasting derby glory last weekend, but was brought to earth by the loss at Villa to drop to fifth. City twice threw away the lead given by Yaya Toure and Edin Dzeko before Andreas Weimann struck Villas winner to leave the visitors without an away win this season. "We played very well and deserved to win, but in five minutes (when Villa scored twice) we threw away everything good we did in the rest of the match," City manager Manuel Pellegrini said. "The way we lost this game was incredible." Tottenham showed it should be held up as a genuine title contender by holding Chelsea to a draw at White Hart Lane, although it will be disappointed the team couldnt kick on after Gylfi Sigurdsson opened the scoring in the first half. Chelsea seized the initiative in the second half, with John Terry equalizing with a header from Juan Matas free kick but hopes of victory receded with around 10 minutes to go when Torres was shown a second yellow card for an aerial collision with Jan Vertonghen. "Im sad because the game was good," Mourinho said. "In the first half it was not such a good Chelsea, in the second half Chelsea was not good -- Chelsea was very, very good." Cardiff inflicted more misery on Fulham manager Martin Jol after substitute Jordon Mutch curled home the winner in the second minute of injury time. Steven Caulkers opener for Cardiff in the 12th had been cancelled out in the 45th by substitute Bryan Ruiz. Robbie Brady won and converted a 12th-minute penalty for Hull while Pablo Osvaldo and Rickie Lambert -- with his 200th league goal -- were the scorers for Southampton. Ignazio Abate AC Milan Maglia . Rays manager Joe Maddon said after a 7-3 loss to the Royals that the team was still awaiting results from another series of tests. Moore was getting a second opinion from Andrews after an MRI exam performed in Kansas City proved to be inconclusive. Maddon did say that it appears the ligaments in Moores elbow were not fully torn. If that was the case, season-ending surgery would be a foregone conclusion. "There is no surgery tomorrow. Thats not planned. I can tell you that," Maddon said. "We need to get all the facts and see how we want to proceed with this, see if surgery is necessary or if its not necessary. Were still waiting to find out." Moore was placed on the disabled list Tuesday, one day after feeling discomfort in his elbow during a loss to the Royals. Moore conceded at tthe time that surgery "is a possibility.dddddddddddd." Moore was dynamic for the Rays last season, going 17-4 with a 3.29 ERA, even though he was on the disabled list from July 31 to Sept. 3 because of soreness in his elbow. "I would say its quite a bit different in how it feels, in how it dangles, with regards to soreness," Moore said before Tuesday nights game. "The discomfort is similar. The severity has jumped from what I was feeling. Its frustrating." Many pitchers have been able to play several seasons with a partially torn ligament, though they often end up undergoing Tommy John surgery eventually. "We are waiting with baited breath," Rays general manager Andrew Friedman said. The Rays recalled left-hander Jeff Beliveau from Triple-A Durham to fill Moores roster spot Tuesday. He appeared in Wednesdays game and was sent back to Durham afterward. Tampa Bay will make another roster move before a weekend series in Cincinnati. PRETORIA, South Africa -- Oscar Pistorius was taken away in a police van with barred windows Tuesday to start serving a five-year prison sentence for killing girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. Delivering her sentence, Judge Thokozile Masipa cited the gross negligence the double-amputee Olympic runner showed when he shot Steenkamp multiple times through a toilet cubicle door in his home. Pistorius, who had cried and wretched during his trial, was unemotional as he stood to hear his sentence. His prison term begins immediately and he was led down a flight of stairs and toward holding cells before leaving the South African courthouse in the armoured vehicle. Pistorius could be released after 10 months in jail to serve the remainder under house arrest, according to legal experts. Steenkamps parents were also in court to hear the sentence and the dead models mother, June, said justice had been done. A close friend of Steenkamp, Gina Myers, said: I really dont think any of us will heal anytime soon ... there will always be questions. Pistorius uncle, Arnold Pistorius, said: Oscar will embrace this opportunity to pay back to society. He appealed to reporters to give the family privacy after what he called 20 months of relentless public trial. Pistorius uncle also criticized state prosecutors for pursuing a premeditated charge against Pistorius, and said they decided to inflict as much collateral damage as they could. Masipa said her sentence was a balancing act between retribution and clemency. I am of the view that a non-custodial sentence would send a wrong message to the community, Masipa said after summarizing parts of the case and explaining why she reached her decision. On the other hand, a long sentence would not be appropriate either as it would lack the element of mercy. Masipa last month convicted Pistorius of culpable homicide, but acquitted him of murder after he testified he mistook Steenkamp for a nighttime intruder. She asked Pistorius to stand as she delivered the sentence Tuesday, and he faced her with his hands clasped in front of him. Pistorius was then led away by police, stopping briefly to grip the hands of his uncle and other family members as he headed to prison. Pistorius defence and the prosecution have 14 days to lodge any appeal against the judges decision. Prosecutors said they are considering whether to appeal the sentence, where Pistorius, 27, could serve less than a year in jail for killing his 29-year-old girlfriend. Nathi Mncube, the prosecution spokesman, said his office was disappointed in the culpable homicide conviction and had not yet decided whether to appeal the sentence. We have not made up our minds whether were going to appeal it or not, he said. He added that there was an appetite to appeal but that prosecutors would review their options. We are satisfied with the fact that he will be serving some time in prison, Mncube said. Masipa had a wide range of options available to her because South Africa does not have a minimum sentence for culpable homicide, which is comparable to manslaughter. Pistorius faced up to 15 years in jail, but could also have received a completely suspended sentence or house arrest. Marius du Toit, a legal analyst and criminal defence lawyer, said Pistorius would have to serve one-sixth of his sentence in prison -- 10 months -- before he could be eligible to be moved to house arrest. Its an appropriate sentence, du Toit said. He said a higher sentence would have been impossible because you cannot elevate the sentence to murder. Another analyst, law professor Kelly Phelps, said Judge Masipa had done a remarkable job at balancing all of the competing interests that were weighing down on her. As Pistorius left in the police van, a raucous crowd gathered around the vehicle, whistling, shouting and banging on the caged windows. Nike Free 3.0 v5 Hardloopschoenen Dames . Andrew Cogliano scored the go-ahead goal at 14:41 as Anaheim scored twice in the third period in a 3-2 victory over the resilient Flames. "Thats one of the biggest two points of the season, for sure," said Cogliano. "To come back from behind in the third period, it shows where were going as a team and I think its a big statement win for us." Stephane Robidas shot from the blue-line was kicked out by Karri Ramo but the puck went right to Cogliano at the face-off circle, who buried his 21st of the season. "Right place at the right time. It landed right on my stick. When I saw the net, no better feeling," said Cogliano, who put a shot off the post just minutes earlier. "Those are the goals were trying to score, especially myself. Getting to the net, getting some rebounds." Finishing it off wasnt easy, however. The Flames poured on the pressure in the final minute with the goalie pulled. Mike Cammalleris blast came the closest to getting past Anaheim goalie Jonas Hiller, but the Ducks hung on. "Its one of those things where theyre just throwing everything at the net and youre trying to find the puck somehow. I found it once or twice there so we could at least get a whistle," said Hiller, who had 32 saves. It was a nice bounce-back game for him after getting chased less than 12 minutes into the last start at the Scotiabank Saddledome after yielding three goals on five shots. "The whole team was upset with what happened last time. I didnt feel I played terribly or whatever but those things happen and its nice if you get a chance pretty quick to do better," said Hiller. "Definitely happy with the way we responded and the way I responded. I thought we played a pretty good road game." Nick Bonino and Mathieu Perreault also scored for Anaheim (47-18-7), which kicks off a three-game road trip to Western Canada with its sixth road win in its last eight games away from the Honda Center. The win moves the Ducks to within two points of the San Jose Sharks and the lead in the Pacific Division. Anaheim still holds two games in hand. Hiller says winning the division is definitely a priority. "It would be great to be up there because if youre second, you have a good chance of playing L.A. in the first round which would be a tough match-up," Hiller said. Brian McGrattan and Jiri Hudler scored for Calgary (30-36-7). Rookie defenceman Tyler Wotherspoon had an assist to give the 21-year-old points inn his last three games.dddddddddddd "Thats the way you learn sometimes, too. You learn from tough losses," said McGrattan, who was playing his 300th NHL game. "Our group hasnt given up all year. Were in every game and work our butts off right until the end and thats a good sign." Its the Flames league-leading 44th one-goal game, one shy of the franchise record set in 2005-06. "If you look at the young guys throughout the year, how theyre showing up against these teams late in the year when were playing San Jose, L.A., Anaheim — were playing all these top teams down the stretch and were giving them a run for the money every night. Thats a lot to build off of as a group and its a lot to learn from," said McGrattan. Trailing 2-1 headed to the third period, the Ducks tied it at 5:32 on Perreaults 16th goal. "We fought hard in the third and got a couple bounces our way and finally we were able to put it in and win the game," said Perreault, who extended his point streak to six games (four goals, two assists). "Coming down the stretch, we play a couple teams that are already out of the playoffs. We have to take advantage of those games." Trailing 1-0 after the first period, the Flames scored twice in the second to take the lead. The tying goal, which bounced off Kevin Westgarths glove in front and then into the net off of McGrattans hip was the rugged wingers fourth goal and 10th of his career. Calgary took a 2-1 lead with 26 seconds left in the second when a pretty fake shot then pass from Ladislav Smid set up Hudler. "Its a good effort. We know we can play with every team in the league but its not good enough — a good effort, we have to get results too. Thats the business of hockey," said Ramo, who had won his previous five decisions. Ramo, who had 31 stops, had his record fall to 13-11-4. Hiller improves to 29-11-6. "They paid the price and when they came to the net, they had a lot of shots and a lot of traffic with them," said Ramo. "They were into the game today, unlike the last game. I think they had a chip on their shoulders when they came here today." PRETORIA, South Africa -- Oscar Pistorius was taken away in a police van with barred windows Tuesday to start serving a five-year prison sentence for killing girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. "He was good, he played well," said Marlies coach Dallas Eakins. It was the fourth consecutive start for Rynnas, who had won just one of his previous four decisions. "If you want to win, you need a goalie wholl make some big saves," Rynnas said. RECIFE, Brazil -- Mario Balotelli couldnt care less if hes mentioned in the same breath as Neymar or Lionel Messi at this World Cup -- as long as he comes away with the trophy. Having scored the winning goal in Italys 2-1 victory over England and now getting ready for Fridays match against Costa Rica, the temperamental forward has gained more attention than any other Azzurri player in Brazil. "I hope this is Italys World Cup, not Marios. Im not really interested in being compared with the big stars," Balotelli said Thursday. "In the end its the squad that wins. I dont want to be a big star. I want to win the World Cup." "Personally, I want to score as many goals as possible," he added at the official pre-match news conference. "But the important thing is that the squad wins and advances." Wearing a black cap turned backward and a total of three diamond earrings -- two on his right ear, one on the left -- Balotelli was his usual candid self. Asked if he minds being the lone forward in coach Cesare Prandellis 4-1-4-1 formation, Balotelli snapped back: "As long as I play." This is a first World Cup for Balotelli, who helped lead Italy to the 2012 European Championship final. "This is the biggest event of my career and I want to give my all," he said. "The World Cup is more important than the Golden Ball, the Champions League or the scudetto (Serie A title), so its only normal that it creates a spark inside of you." Balotelli has made headlines almost from the moment he landed in Brazil, first by proposing to his Belgian girlfriend on a moon-lit beach in the week leading up to the England match. "The proposal had nothing to do with the World Cup," Balotelli said. "The proposal would have occurred even without the World Cup." Balotelli is coming off an up-and-down club season with AC Milan and has been the subject of rampant transfer speculation in recent weeks. There have been reports that Arsenal is offering Milan a (euro)30 million ($40 million) transfer fee, and a contract for Balotelli worth 180,000 pounds (more than $300,000) per week. "My focus is 100 per cent on the World Cup," he said. "I dont know what will happen afterward. I dont know anything." While he does appear focused, Balotelli was not prepared for questions about Costa Ricas players. For example, what does he think about Keylor Navas, who had a strong season with Levante and is considered one of the top goalkeepers in the Spanish league? "Honestly, Im unprepared for this question because I havent seen the Costa Rica goalkeeper," he responded. OK, so what impressed him about Costa Ricas defence in a 3-1 win over Uruguay? "I saw the match but to be sincere I didnt study the players," Balotelli said. "Ill watch them tonight." That was the point when Prandelli butted in and offered help. "If you want, I can answer about all of the players," the coach told a Costa Rican journalist with a smile. Costa Rica defender Giancarlo Gonzalez, however, wasnt amused. "We will let the world know that we are here," Gonzalez said. Sitting right next to Balotelli, Prandelli managed to analyze his prized players hot and cold streaks as if he were there alone. "If you look at Mario in these four years there have been moments of alarm," Prandelli said. "One moment hes the man whos going to bring you to the top of the world and then a moment later he shouldnt even be at the World Cup." "The important thing for us is for him to stay focused and play like he did in the last match," Prandelli added. "If he does that for 90 minutes he could be decisive. He needs to give 100 per cent." The Cubs purchased the contract of Ramon Ortiz from Triple-A Iowa to start Tuesday nights game against the Washington Nationals. Ortiz last pitched in the majors on May 19, 2010, for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Ortiz was 6-3 with a 4.26 earned-run average for Iowa. He was needed because Carlos Zambrano is on the disabled list with a sore back. Four of Chicagos five starters from the opening day rotation have been on the disabled list this season. The last time the Cubs needed 10 starters before the all-star break was in 2006. Ortiz became the second starter in as many days to fill a sudden hole in the rotation. On Monday, Casey Coleman was recalled from Iowa and started against Washingtonn because Ryan Dempster was recovering from an abdominal ailment that had him hospitalized in Chicago over the weekend.dddddddddddd Cubs manager Mike Quade said Dempster is still day-to-day with a stiff lower back but the team is "hoping he can answer the bell" for his next scheduled start Saturday against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Also Tuesday, the Cubs placed right-handed reliever Marcos Mateo on the 15-day disabled list with a sore elbow. Mateo left in the 10th inning of Mondays game after he apparently injured himself on a ball-four pitch to Jayson Werth. Mateo was flown to Chicago and had an MRI on Tuesday, but the team doesnt expect to have the results for another day or two. The Cubs also flip-flopped the move they made Monday, recalling reliever Chris Carpenter from Iowa and optioning Coleman to the triple-A club. In a stunning reversal, standout pitcher Masahiro Tanaka will have a chance to leave his Japanese team to move to the majors next season. It was during a news conference Wednesday that Rakuten disclosed Tanaka will be made available through the posting system. Rakuten didnt have to release Tanaka, as he has two years left on his deal with the Golden Eagles. Tanaka compiled a 24-0 record with a 1.27 ERA in 28 games (27 starts) during the 2013 regular season and helped lead Rakuten to the Japan Series title. The 25-year-old has recorded a 99-35 mark with a 2.30 ERA in 175 games (172 starts) since joining Rakuten in 2007. He has 53 complete games, including 18 shutouts, and will be a hot commodity for any major league club who wants to pony up enough money to sign the right-hander. Under new rules set this offseason, the cap on the posting fee was set at $20 million. Teams need to commit that much money to negotiate with Tanaka for up to 30 days, but clubs who do not secure a deal to get the righty will have their cash refunded. If a contract is worked out, the $20 million will go to Rakuten. The New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers are reportedly among the clubs who are prepared to get into a high-bidding war for Tanaka. He was reportedly paid $4 million last season, but Tanakas annual salary will likely get a significant jump once he signs with an MLB team. The new rules, which are somewhat similar to how European soccer players transfer teams, were put in place to avoid what happened when the Texas Rangers signed pitcher Yu Darvish away from the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters. Darvish had a posting fee of $51.7 million and then the Rangers signed the pitcher to a six-year, $60 million contract. Prior to the 2007 season, the Red Sox got Daisuke Matsuzaka for a $51 million posting fee from the Seibu Lions and then inked the Japanese hurler to a six-year, $52 million pact. Before the $20 million posting limit took effect, the MLB team that offered, on a blind bid, the highest posting fee could negotiate for 30 days with a specific club. If a deal couldnt be reached by the deadline, the player would remain in Japan for another season. Instead of one team negotiating with the player under the former system, all clubs that pay the posting fee, this one of $20 million for Tanaka, can try to work out a contract. ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. - Buffalo Bills coach Doug Marrone doesnt believe receiver Robert Woods will be able play at Pittsburgh this weekend because of a sore left ankle. Marrone provided the update after the rookie missed practice Wednesday. Marrone was a little more optimistic about the chances of rookie receiver Marquise Goodwins chances of playing after he missed practice with a strained hamstring. Marrone said Goodwin was expected to return to practice on a limited basis on Thursday. Both receivers were hurt in a 23-13 loss to Kansas City on Sunday. Woods, a second-round pick, was hurt late in the third quarter, when he tumbled out of bounds attempting to make a catch. He has 26 catches for 349 yards and two touchdowns. Those lessons were more than enough to overwhelm the Utah Jazz. Lou Williams scored 25 points and the Hawks continued their offensive upswing as they rolled to an easy 118-85 victory over the Jazz on Friday night, winning their third straight and for the fourth time in five games. The Hawks had 32 assists, adding to their NBA lead and bringing a smile to the face of their first-year coach. "Its an indication theyre just getting a better and better understanding of the ball movement and how we want to play," Budenholzer said. "Passing and hitting the open guy just becomes something thats expected." Atlanta set a scoring high with its 124-107 win over Sacramento on Wednesday night and has topped 110 points in three straight games. Al Horford, who had 23 points, has been a key in the recent flurry of high-scoring games. He has averaged 23.6 points in his last five games. Williams, who has played in only 14 games in his return from knee surgery, took extra shooting practice after scoring only two points in 20 minutes in Wednesday nights win over Sacramento. "Im glad it paid off," Williams said. "It was one of the nights we had everything clicking." The Hawks never trailed and pushed their lead to double digits for good in the opening period. They kept up the pressure, outscoring Utah in every period and making 52.3 per cent of their shots (45 of 86) from the field. Budenholzer said the most encouraging sign was "not so much putting them away, but just continuing to play the way we play, just doing the things we did to establish a lead. Tonight was a step forward in that direction." Jeff Teague had nine points and eight assists. Horford was resting when the Hawks took an 85-58 lead into the final period. "Our energy was the difference," Horford said. The Jazz agreed.dddddddddddd "Its a mental thing," said Utahs Derrick Favours. "Weve just got to come out with the energy and the attitude like they had against us tonight." It was a letdown for Utah coach Tyrone Corbin following a win at Orlando on Wednesday night. "I thought we didnt come out with the sense of urgency wed been seeing," Corbin said. "I thought wed turned the corner, I felt like, the way we played in Orlando the other night. I was looking for that effort. We just didnt have it from the beginning tonight." Enes Kanter had 13 points and 13 rebounds for Utah (7-22). Alec Burks also had 13 points. Trey Burke, who scored a career-high 30 points against Orlando, made only 1 of 8 shots for two points. Atlantas Paul Millsap had 14 points and 10 rebounds against his former Utah teammates. The Hawks took their largest halftime lead of the season, pulling ahead by 21 points to lead 55-34 at the break. Horford had 14 points in the half. Kyle Korver extended his NBA record by making a 3-pointer in his 96th consecutive game. His made the first of his two 3s with 4:24 remaining in the first period. Utah had a scare midway through the third quarter when Gordon Hayward was slow to return to his feet following a collision with Teague as the two were reaching for a loose ball. Hayward remained in the game following a timeout and finished with 11 points. Jeremy Evans, the 2012 slam-dunk competition champion, missed a dunk and then landed hard on his back with 7:53 remaining, giving the Jazz another scare. Following a brief delay, Evans remained in the game and had 10 points. NOTES: The Jazz are 0-11 on the road and 1-13 overall when trailing at halftime. ... LONDON -- Michael Laudrup was fired as Swansea manager on Tuesday, paying the price for a slump in the year since delivering the south Wales clubs first major trophy. The Dane is leaving the Premier League club after 20 months, having signed a new contract in March 2013 after being linked with leading clubs following his teams triumph in the League Cup. Now, though, Swansea is 12th in the standings but just two points above the relegation zone, prompting the 49-year-old Laudrups dismissal. "It is a decision we have taken reluctantly," chairman Huw Jenkins said. "But its a decision made in the best interests of Swansea City Football Club and our supporters. It is the first time in nearly 10 years that the club has parted with a manager in this way, but we had to remove the constant uncertainty surrounding the club and Michaels long-term future with us." Garry Monk, the 34-year-old defender who has been out injured since September, will replace Laudrup, alongside current first team coach Alan Curtis, "for the foreseeable future," Swansea said. Like Laudrup, two possible contenders for the job on a full-time basis are former Barcelona players who advocate the type of passing game favoured by Swansea; Oscar Garcia, who currently manages second-tier club Brighton, and Luis Enrique, who is in his first season as coach of Celta Vigo. Swanseas next game is the south Wales derby against fierce rival Cardiff at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday. "After thinking long and hard about the best way forward, I felt it was unlikely we would achieve a stable environment at the club (with Laudrup) to allow us to get back to basics and produce the performance levels that have served Swansea City so well over the last few years," Jenkins said. "Now we need to put that uncertainty behind us and move forward as a united football club on all fronts." For Laudrup, whose fortunes have rapidly plummeted since the League Cup success last February, it is the latest setback in a mixed managerial career for the former forward following a successful playing career that took in both Barcelona and Real Madrid. After winning the league and cup in Denmark with Brondby, he guided Getafe to the final of the Copa del Rey -- where they lost to Sevilla -- in his one season with the unheralded Spanish club. Next came a troubled year in Russia with Spartak Moscow before returning to Spain with Mallorca, where he soon fell out with the owners. It was at Swansea where his profile soared, building on the work of predecessor Brendan Rodgers and initially establishing the team as a fixture in the Premier Leagues top 10 with its attractive passing game. But since beating lowly Bradford in the cup final, Swansea has won just eight of out 35 Premier League games across the two seasons and there have been continuous reports about a rift with the hierarchy. Tom Brady completed 23-of-35 passes for 182 yards with one touchdown for New England (12-3), which will clinch the AFCs top seed if Denver loses at Cincinnati on Monday night. With the Patriots clinging to a one-point lead in the fourth quarter, Brady threw an interception while under pressure, a theme throughout the game. Cornerback Marcus Williams picked off the pass that deflected off wide receiver Brandon LaFells hands at the New England 31-yard line. The Patriots defense stiffened as a third-down sack by linebacker Donta Hightower forced a 52-yard Nick Folk field goal attempt that was tipped by lineman Vince Wilfork and landed short. New England ran out the remaining 5:16, converting a pair of third downs. Danny Amendola, filling in for Julian Edelman on both offense and special teams, was tackled near the marker at the New York 48-yard line after a screen pass on 3rd-and-7. Some confusion ensued as the ball appeared to be inches shy of a first down based upon a measurement. However, the official signaled a first down, leading to a unsuccessful challenge by the Jets. Brandon Bolden then ran around the right edge for 17 yards on 3rd-and-1 to seal the win. We were able to make the plays we needed to make at the end of the game and thats a credit to the players, said New England coach Bill Belichick, who earned his 230th career win to surpass Curly Lambeau for sole possession of fourth place in NFL history. Geno Smith passed for 210 yards on 17-of-27 efficiency with a touchdown and one interception for the Jets (3-12). Another game that I thought we had a chance to win against New England, but thats been the story. Probably four of the last five times weve playyed them it seems like that, but to their credit they find ways to win, said Jets coach Rex Ryan.dddddddddddd The New York defense hounded Brady right from the start, registering three first-quarter sacks. New England began the second quarter in New York territory after a 39-yard punt return by Amendola, who had eight catches on 11 targets for 63 yards in place of Edelman. The Patriots leading receiver missed the game with a concussion and a thigh injury. Brady capped the six-play, 36-yard drive with a touchdown pass to Rob Gronkowski. The tight end lined up wide left and hauled in a back-shoulder fade from three yards out. The Jets tied the game at 7-7 when tight end Jeff Cumberland beat safety Patrick Chung on a seam route for a 25-yard touchdown catch. Center Nick Mangold was carted off the field with a left ankle injury during the 12-play, 87-yard drive. Folk kicked a 26-yard field goal to put New York up 10-7 late in a first half that saw New England limited to 52 yards. The Jets reached the red zone on their opening possession of the third quarter, but settled for a 23-yard Folk field goal. New England then changed its tempo on offense, going no-huddle, and had success moving the ball. The drive ultimately stalled at the New York 6-yard line and Stephen Gostkowski kicked a 24-yard field goal. Smith was then picked off by linebacker Jamie Collins on an underthrown pass to tight end Jace Amaro. The Patriots moved in front off the turnover as Jonas Gray ran for a 1-yard touchdown 1:09 into the fourth quarter. Folk made a 37-yard field goal with 7:53 remaining to cap the ensuing New York drive. Game Notes New York wide receiver Percy Harvin (ribs) left the game and didnt return ... TORONTO – Mason Raymond was coming off what he believed to be a pretty good sixth season in Vancouver. He scored 10 goals in 46 games and entered the summer of 2013 as an unrestricted free agent for the first time. But when September rolled around and training camps were due to open in a matter of days, Raymond found himself without the safety and security of a contract. “We all knew what was happening with the cap,” he told the Leaf Report. “But did I think Id be in that situation? No, not at all.” Amid the now forgotten wreckage of the last NHL lockout was the plunge in the caps upper limit from $70 million in 2013 to $64.3 million this fall. The dip in available dollars and subsequent uncertainty left many veterans, like Raymond and new Leaf Jerred Smithson, searching with frustration for amenable contracts, often with little or no success. Though he had played in over 300 NHL games and had scored 25 goals as recently as 2010, Raymond had no better option but a professional tryout in Toronto on the eve of training camp. Suffice it to say, the lack of opportunity took him by surprise and remains a source of bewilderment. “I had a good year last year,” said the 27-year-old, who totaled 22 points in his final season with the Canucks. “I fully expected something to materialize. To be honest, I didnt really know that youd come into a team on a tryout five days before camp opened. I was optimistic and so was my agent, but it just seemed like for whatever reason a lot of players got stuck in the situation that I did.” There was a general sense among teams, including the Leafs, that cost-effective opportunities might present themselves because of the cap crunch this summer. But to find Raymond available on the eve of training camp was certainly an unexpected and pleasant surprise. Inked to a one-year contract for an even $1 million, he has proven a valuable find so far. Averaging what would be a career-high of 19 minutes, Raymond has scored five goals and 11 points in 17 games. His speedy presence, amid a 10-game suspension to David Clarkson and early injuries to Nik Kulemin, James van Riemsdyk and Joffrey Lupul, as well as current ones to Tyler Bozak and Dave Bolland, has been an obvious aid to the Leafs, who sit third in the Atlantic division. “Ive always believed Im an NHL player,” Raymond said. “I thought that prior to coming to camp, I thought that all summer and I think that to this day. You have to go out and prove that more importantly to yourself, I think. Im a big believer that, [if] you do the right things, play some good hockey, everything else will take care of itself.” Some fled to Europe with no jobs to be found as the summer months waned and became fall. Others stuck around and remained as patient as possible, Raymond and Smithson, a veteran of 588 career games prior to this season, among them. “I knew the situation,” said Smithson, in conversation with the Leaf Report. “I knew the cap was going down, but nothing can really prepare you for that. I figured I was still good enough to get a job, get a one-way deal somewhere and, when it didnt happen, it was tough. It was not so much humbling, but more frustrating. I knew it was a possibility, but once it really hit, it [was] not a good feeling.” Unlike Raymond, Smithson wasnt able to land even a tryout in the NHL, but one instead with the Marlies of the AHL. It was mid-October. He and his fiancé were parents of a newborn baby. Patience had been predictably difficult to keep. “I knew right away I wasnt obviously a big name, that teams were going to go after the first few days, so I was prepared to be patient – maybe not this patient, but prepared to be patient,” he said. “Once August rolled around and still, there wasnt anything that was really coming out at me. There were a few tryout offers or two-way deals, but nothing that I was really willing to bite on right away.” Smithson and his agent were forced to give a good, long look to Europe. “It was never a dream of mine to go over to Europe,” he said. “And I made that clear to my agent right away that Im willing to be as patient as I can. It was obviously a lot harder than I originally thought, but it worked out.” Injuries to Bozak and Bolland finally opened a door back into the NHL for Smithson last week - the 34-year-old signed a one-year deal for the veteran minimum of $550,000. A noted faceoff specialist and penalty killer, he has quickly gained an important role for Randy Carlyle, plugging the gap of the two injured centres in both regards. “Im not a big fan of the term ‘it is what is, but I cant control [the cap crunch],” said Smithson, who played seven seasons in Nashville, also making stops in Los Angeles, Florida and Edmonton. “I could just control my attitude and try to stay in the best shape as I possibly could and, if a phone call came, just be ready for when that opportunity knocked. Im very grateful for the opportunity the Leafs gave me, with the Marlies and with them, [and Im] just looking to take advantage of it.” Though Smithson projects as more of a stop-gap option, Raymond could earn himself a larger contract next summer with a productive season. Two years ago, Clarke MacArthur joined the Leafs late in the summer on a bargain one-year deal, worth $1.1 million. Now a member of the Ottawa Senators, MacArthur busted out with a career season that first year in Toronto, subsequently signing a two-year deal worth $6.5 million the following offseason. Raymond could be in line for something similar if he remains productive. At the very least, with the cap expected to rise once more, he is unlikely to find himself in such a precarious position again. "Thats hockey, thats life, thats the cards you were dealt and you have to deal with it,” Raymond said of the cap crunch this past summer. “You can sit here and say the what ifs, whatevers, and all that, but it was a situation and, unfortunately, it happened to some of us. I think [the cap was] the reason, [but] I dont know the exact reason. For [Smithsons] sake and my sake things have worked out well.” Yeezy Boost 350 Turtle Dove . -- Milos Raonic and Aleksandra Wozniak continued successful injury comebacks as each advanced into the fourth round of the BNP Paribas Open on Monday to next face reigning Grand Slam champions. MUNICH, Germany -- Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara will be out for six to eight weeks after suffering an extended partial ligament tear in his right knee on Saturday. The club says the Spaniard will miss both Champions League quarterfinal games against Manchester United and the semifinals should Bayern progress. Bayern coach Pep Guardiola says "its bad news. Were going to miss him a lot." Thiago suffered the injury in the first half of Bayerns 3-3 draw at home with Hoffenheim. An MRI scan late Saturday by team doctor Hans-Wilhelm Mueller-Wohlfahrt confirmed the extent of the injury. Teammate Thomas Mueller says, "its very bitter and comes at a catastrophic time, just before the important games." City capitalized on Chelseas 2-1 defeat at Newcastle by beating Everton 1-0, with a left knee injury sustained by star striker Sergio Aguero early in the game marring an otherwise great day for the champions. Newcastle shattered Chelseas unlikely bid to go through the 38-game campaign undefeated, pushing 2-0 ahead through a second-half double from Papiss Cisse and then hanging onto its lead after the 81st-minute sending-off of Steven Taylor. Didier Drogbas headed goal in the 83rd set up a frantic finish but Chelsea came unstuck at St. James Park for the third straight season, ending a 14-match unbeaten start in the league. The best team lost. The team which tried to win lost, said Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, who hasnt won at Newcastle in five attempts. We were unlucky. Aguero, the leagues top scorer with 14 goals, limped off in tears after getting hurt in a seemingly innocuous challenge in the second minute at Etihad Stadium. If the Argentina striker had been on the field, he would have taken the penalty converted by Yaya Toure in the 24th minute for the winning goal. Arsenal missed a chance to climb provisionally into the top four by losing 3-2 at Stoke, conceding to Peter Crouch after 19 seconds -- making it the quickest goal of the season -- and two more times in the first half. Santi Cazorla, with a penalty, and Aaron Ramsey scored in the space of two second-half minutess to reduce the gap, but Arsenals hopes of completing a recovery were dented by Calum Chambers red card with 12 minutes left.dddddddddddd Arsenal has won just once in its last nine games at Stoke. Liverpool and Tottenham failed to make up ground in the race for the Champions League places, drawing 0-0 at home to likely relegation candidates Sunderland and Crystal Palace, respectively, to remain marooned in mid-table. Liverpool started captain Steven Gerrard on the bench for the second time in three league games. It was also goalless between Hull and West Bromwich Albion while Queens Park Rangers jumped out of the bottom three by beating Burnley 2-0. Charlie Austin scored QPRs second goal before getting sent off for a second booking. It was Chelseas first defeat since April -- ending an unbeaten run of 23 games, 21 of which have come this season. Such was Chelseas explosive start to the league season and the strength of its squad that there was growing talk that the team could emulate the Arsenal team of 2003-04 in going the campaign undefeated. Goals by Cisse in the 57th and 78th put paid to that. Mourinho said he had no complaints about the result but was unhappy that ball-boys and Newcastle fans took too long to return the ball to the field. You need one ball, he said. Sometimes we had no balls and other times we had two balls. City played three hours later and sealed a fourth straight win thanks to Toures penalty, awarded after James Milner was fouled by Phil Jagielka. City goalkeeper Joe Hart preserved the lead with a brilliant late save to deny Romelu Lukaku. OTTAWA -- The Philadelphia Flyers say they are aware of stories out of Ottawa "surrounding" Claude Giroux, who was reportedly arrested Tuesday night for allegedly grabbing the buttocks of a male police officer. The team says it is not commenting further until they have more information. Ottawa police say they cant comment on the media reports because no charges have been laid. When asked if Giroux was still in custody, a police spokesman said he "is no longer here." Police say they dont expect charges to be laid. The Ottawa Police said in a separate press release that seven arrests were made in connection to Canada Day festivities and that all but one were for "non-criminal matters." Pat Brisson, Girouxs agent, did not immediately respond to an email seeking comment. Giroux, a native of Hearst, Ont., who lives in the Ottawa area, was a finalist for the Hart Trophy as NHL MVP this past season. The 26-year-old had 28 goals and 58 assists in leading the Flyers to the playoffs. Jacob McQuaide Rams Jersey . Watch all the action unfold live on TSN at 10pm et/7pm pt. The Canucks are 0-2-2 in their past four, the second-longest losing stretch of the season behind just an 0-3-2 skid from Nov. 9-19. Vancouver faded on Sunday versus the Anaheim Ducks, giving up a game-tying goal with under two minutes to go in the third period and then the overtime winner in a 4-3 setback with 0.6 seconds left in overtime. The Canucks were outshot 24-8 over the final two periods and overtime. "Weve beaten ourselves a little bit. Weve had a lot of struggles in a lot of different areas the past couple of games. We have to keep our heads and keep on working at our game," said Canucks coach John Tortorella. Henrik Sedin recorded a goal and two assists, while Ryan Kesler and Kevin Bieksa scored for Vancouver. Daniel Sedin finished with three assists and Eddie Lack did his best with 45 saves. Lack got the start after Roberto Luongo got hurt in a collision in net versus the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday. Luongo had just returned from a brief three-game absence caused by a lower-body injury. It is unknown how long Luongo will be out and the team confirmed on Tuesday that Lack will face the Penguins for the first time in his career. Pittsburgh has won its last three versus Vancouver, the last two in a shootout. That includes a 4-3 home win on Oct. 19 in the first of two meetings this season. Malkin had the winner in the third round and Sidney Crosby had a goal and two assists as Fleury made 36 saves.dddddddddddd Luongo turned aside 25 shots in the setback. Pittsburgh is leading the Eastern Conference with 63 points as it has been able to overcome a number of injuries this season. One of the most recent was to Evgeni Malkin, who sat out nine straight games with a lower-body injury before returning in Sundays 6-5 win over the Winnipeg Jets. Though understandably tired afterwards, Malkin didnt miss a beat by logging a pair of goals and an assist. That gave the forward 11 goals and 44 points in just 33 games this season. "Tough game for me. Im a little bit tired, but thanks to my linemates. They did a great job. Most of the time we were in the offensive zone," said Malkin. "I missed lots of game. Im excited to be back and just have fun." James Neal certainly enjoyed Malkins return, notching two goals and an assist himself. Neal has 16 goals and 34 points in 24 games this season, missing 15 earlier in the campaign with a lower-body injury before sitting out another five in early December due to a suspension. Matt Niskanen had the go-ahead goal in Sundays win and Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 29 saves. Kris Letang returned from a 10-game absence caused by an elbow issue and had an assist. Pittsburgh won for the fourth time in its last five games and for the 12th time in a row at home to match a club record. The Pens will have to wait to try and set a new mark as their next three are on the road. The triumph was Pittsburgh head coach Dan Bylsmas 232nd career win, tying him with Eddie Johnson for the most victories in franchise history as well. BARCELONA, Spain -- Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets says only "losers" make excuses after Manchester City justified its Champions League loss to the Spanish champions through officiating error. City manager Manuel Pellegrini said referee Jonas Eriksson "decided the game" when he sent off Martin Demichelis before the hour mark of Barcelonas 2-0 first-leg away win in the last 16. Busquets says "referees make mistakes all the time, for and against you. But making excuses for why you lose is for losers." The Spain internationals comments may provide City with some extra spark ahead of the return leg at the Camp Nou on March 12. On Thursday, UEFA opened an investigation against Pellegrini over his outburst. Nike Roshe Run Floral Italia . Cody Ross hit his first home run of the year, Eric Chavez went deep for the second consecutive day and the Diamondbacks beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-3 on Sunday for their first series win at Chase Field all season. COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Columbus Blue Jackets learned something from a humiliating defeat two nights earlier. Ryan Johansen and R.J. Umberger each scored two goals and the Blue Jackets pulled away in the third period to beat the Philadelphia Flyers 6-3 on Saturday night. The game came 48 hours after the Blue Jackets led 3-0 after two periods and 4-2 with 5 minutes left in Philadelphia, with the Flyers scoring five times in the final period in a 5-4 win. "(Tonight) we kept going after them," Umberger said. "We didnt sit back. We were on our heels in Philadelphia and they got some momentum. But tonight we just kept rolling." David Savard had a goal and an assist and Boone Jenner also scored, while Nikita Nikitin and Corey Tropp each had two assists for the Blue Jackets, who said they were embarrassed by the Thursday collapse. "We didnt play our game (in Philadelphia)," Johansen said. "From the first couple of shifts tonight, we were on. We stuck with it through some adversity -- a couple of injuries, a couple of penalties." Tempering the victory was the loss of Blue Jackets forward Marian Gaborik, who broke a collarbone in the first period and is out indefinitely. This time the Blue Jackets watched a 2-0 lead vanish in 20 seconds late in the second period, but then took control at the outset of the third. Savard took a pass from Nikitin at the 3:36 mark, adjusted to avoid a defender and then slid a rising shot from the right point that beat Ray Emery high on the stick side. Just over 2 minutes later, Savard returned the favour by passing to Nikitin at the left point. His shot, with the Flyers slow to flow back into position, was redirected by Jenner in the slot to push the lead to two. "Obviously, weve got to be better defensively," said Flyers captain Claude Giroux, who had two of his clubs late goals at Wells Fargo Arena. Johansen, who had opened the scoring, then flicked a wrister past Emery on a 2-on-1 break to make it 5-2 with 7:38 left. Umberger then added an empty-netter. "It was a gutsy win, for a lot of reasons," said coach Todd Richards. "You go back to Thursday night and how we lost that game. Tonight we gave up two quick goals as the second period ended, were missing two key elements of our team (forward Matt Calvert also had his arm in a sling after the game) so we were playing short-handed, and we gave up five power plays. And we still came out and won..dddddddddddd" Curtis McElhinney, victimized for all the goals on Thursday night, made the lead stand up with 33 saves. "That was a tough game there on Thursday, to give up five goals in the third period," he said. "This is certainly a nice, big win for us. Its important that everybody relishes this tonight." The Blue Jackets, much like the earlier meeting, got off to a good start only to lose it. At the 10:43 mark of the first period, Gaborik, just back after missing 17 games with a sprained left knee, got off a shot that was pushed aside by Emery. Nick Foligno collected the puck along the back wall and skated to the other side of the cage where he fed Johansen, who lifted a shot from the right doorstep for his 13th of the year. Gaborik, sandwiched between Braydon Coburn and Zac Rinaldo on his shot, got up slowly and immediately skated off the ice to the dressing room. The club announced between periods that the veteran, with 341 goals and 345 assists in 686 games, had a broken collarbone and would be out indefinitely. After James Wisniewskis hard slap shot from the right point was redirected by Umberger into the net made it 2-0, the Flyers responded. On a 3-on-2, Wayne Simmonds, who had two goals for Philadelphia, pulled up and wristed a shot from the high slot that beat McElhinney. Before that could be announced, Matt Reads pass from the short boards skipped past three Blue Jackets to Sean Couturier, who buried it for his seventh goal -- quieting a crowd of 14,090. But unlike what happened two nights before, the Blue Jackets dominated the third. "I dont think we were flat," Flyers coach Craig Berube said. "We made mistakes on their goals that will be easy to correct. They didnt have to happen." Simmonds felt the Flyers could have done more. "I dont think we competed as hard as we did the other night," he said. "Thats what happens. They were definitely determined to win tonight. The looked like they wanted it more than us." Notes: Philadelphia also announced just before the game that D Nicklas Grossman (flu) would be out and that RW Steve Downie would miss 7-10 days (upper body). ... The Flyers Erik Gustafsson went off with a left knee injury after a third-period collision with Columbus Corey Tropp. ... Referee Dan ORourke, kicked in the chest by a skate in the first period, left the ice after Johansens first goal and did not return. BOURNEMOUTH, England - Jordan Hamilton scored in second-half stoppage time to lift the Canadian under-20 soccer team to a 2-2 tie with England on Wednesday.Hamiltons goal came on a volley after a Canadian free kick was stopped. The 18-year-old Toronto FC striker is currently on loan to C.D. Trofense in Portugals second tier.I thought the boys did terrifically well to come back, going a goal down twice, it shows terrific spirit among the group, said manager Rob Gale. But above all I thought it was football game. Both teams looked to try and play, obviously got good quality players on the opposition but for all the quality there, we were difficult to break down.I think we outchanced them overall so I was delighted for the lads. I think it was absolutely just rewards when we got the equalizer.Midfielder Michael Petrasso of Englands Notts Country scored in the 49th minute for Canada, which went behind twice before 6,986 at Goldsands Stadium. Petrasso took a nice through ball from Toronto FCs Manny Aparico and raced 40 yards to goal before calmly finishing the play.Arsenal striker Chuba Akpom opened the scoring for England from close range in the 15th minute before local favourite Baily Cargill of AFC Bournemouth made it 2-1 with another header off a corner in the 85th minute. The Canadian team is in Europe to prepare for the CONCACAF Under-20 Championship in January in Jamaica.Next up for Gales team are games in Marbella, Spain, against Russia on Saturday and the U.S. on Nov. 18.We can build on this, theres still stuff to improve on, but were going in the right direction for sure, said Gale.England was coming off winning the Four Nations Tournament last month, posting wins over host Netherlands and Germany and a tie with Turkey. OTTAWA - Torontos Patrick Chan is giving the world championships a miss, but he isnt finished with competitive figure skating just yet. Chan captured two silver medals at last months Sochi Winter Games — mens singles and the inaugural team event. But he doesnt have the urge to resume training to defend his world title when the event is held in Saitama, Japan, later this month. However, the 23-year-old said hes committed to chasing a fourth world championship at some point. "Honestly, I know in my heart I want to win another world championship ... I really dont feel like this is the end," Chan said during a conference call. "(After Sochi) I asked myself if I could see myself training at the immediate moment, like right now could I go into training like I did before the Games? "I really didnt see that as a possibility. I already went to a world championships after an Olympic Games (2010 in Vancouver) so I really wanted to enjoy coming home and enjoying the medal and enjoying it with the rest of Canada this time because I didnt have that chance last time. I really wanted to enjoy myself with these two medals." Ice dancers Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir, who also earned two silver medals in Sochi, wont compete at the world championships either. Both were non-commital about their future but the expectation is the two-time world champions and 2010 Olympic champions will retire. "We werent sure how wed feel after the Olympics in Sochi and we ended on such a high note," Virtue said. "We were so pleased with our performances, both short and free dance, and just thrilled with the experience we had at the Olympics it just seems like the right way to end the season. "Kind of a nice way to say good-bye to those two programs." Virtue and Moir finished second in Sochi to Americans Meryl Davis and Charlie White, with the two teams sharing the same coach, Russian Marina Zoueva. Afterwards, the Canadians publicly questioned Zouevas loyalties. "Some of the things we were honest about at that press conference would come as no surprise to Marina," Virtue said. "She was very aware of the situation. "We travelled to Moscow and did two shows after the closing ceremonies and Meryl and Charlie also did their shows and it was a really nice way to cap off the Olympics with spending time with the two of them in a care-free, fun environment where we could just talk about our experiences. I think we probably talked more in that day than we have in the past few years because the pressure was off and we were able to just chat as friends again. It was a nice way to end that chapter with them." While their competitive seasons are over, Moir, Virtue and Chan wont be hanging up their blades. All three will tour and perform with Stars on Ice. "I think were more comfortable trying to take advantage of some of the opportunities after an Olympic Games," Moir said. "Were very much at peace with where were at." Chan was second at the 2010 world championships after finishing fifth at the Vancouver Games, winning his first global crown the following year. The 23-year-old had a glorious opportunity to win gold in Sochi after 19-year-old rival Yuzuru Hanyu of Japan struggled in his free skate. But Chan couldnt take advantage. Twice he faltered during jumps, putting his hand on the ice to keep from falling, and stumbled on a third in settling for the silver behind Hanyu. Chan said he, Virtue and Moir attended a function Monday with Caroline Ouellette, a member of Canadas gold medal-winning womens hockey team. Chan admitted he was somewhat envious of Ouellettes medal. "A gold medal is really, really nice and its different and I definitely get a spell of jealousy," he said. "At the same time I have to look at the experience I had and how different of a sport figure skating is. "These silver medals were not easy to get, they were probably just as hard as a gold medal is. One or two mistakes too many and just in that moment it came out of my grasp. Its a bit of a reminder but again its also a good challenge to kind of stay positive and look at the brighter side of things." Canada will send a 17-member team at the world championships. Olympian Kevin Reynolds, who was 15th at Sochi, will lead Canadas three-man singles team in Japan when the competition begins March 24. Both of Canadas women from the Sochi Games are entered in the worlds. Kaetlyn Osmond was 13th in Russia, and Gabrielle Daleman 17th. Other Canadian Olympians who will compete at Saitama are Meagan Duhamel and Eric Radford, who were seventh in pairs; Kirsten Moore-Towers and Dylan Moscovitch, who were fifth; and Paige Lawrence and Rudi Swiegers, who came 14th. Ice dancers Kaitlyn Weaver and Andrew Poje, seventh at Sochi, and Alexandra Paul and Mitchell Islam, 18th, will compete at the worlds. Winnipeg Jets forward Evander Kane is ready to return to action and will play on Thursday night against the Phoenix Coyotes. Jets head coach Paul Maurice confirmed the news on Tuesday, saying Kane was fully recovered from a hand infection that forced the Jets to put him on Injured Reserve on February 3. Yes, that was everyone. With teams unable to even start the process of getting contracts done until 2 p.m. on Friday, the reigning Eastern Conference champions simply decided to go through what amounted to basically a dress rehearsal for what will be the first full practice on Saturday. By then, a dozen more deals are expected to get finalized, giving the Heat more than enough players to start the process of getting ready for a new year. "Today is not obviously your traditional first day of training camp," Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. Welcome to the first steps in the post-lockout world, where normalcy may still be a day or two away -- at least. When the Heat convene Saturday afternoon, theyll have 14 days left before the plane leaves for Dallas and a Christmas Day opener against the Mavericks in a rematch of last seasons NBA finals. Spoelstra plans on jumping back to near where the team left off, starting with what he called a playoff practice to gauge how much the Heat remembers from a few months ago. The Heat expect 18 players in training camp, with Mike Miller (hernia) and Eddie House (left knee) sidelined while recovering from surgery and likely out for two weeks or more. Mario Chalmers -- who agreed Friday to a new deal that could pay up to US$12 million over three years -- is expected on the floor Saturday, as are fellow holdovers from last season Juwan Howard and James Jones, both of whom agreed to new deals. Shane Battier signed Friday night and will practice Saturday, as should Eddy Curry, who has been in just 10 NBA games over the past three years. "Ive been knowing Eddy since high school basketball," Bosh said. "I think we know what hes all capable of doing when hes in shape and is at the top of his game. Its unfortunate what has happened to him in the past few years, but Im sure hes eager to get back and hopefully he has a bit of a chip on his shoulder as well." And how does Curry look to Bosh? "Looks good. Looks good," Bosh said. Wade, who has worked out with Curry often -- they are booth pupils of trainer Tim Grover in Chicago -- said he was also impressed.dddddddddddd "It was good to see him come in," Wade said of Curry, who was listed at six-foot-11 and 295 pounds in his last NBA stint. "Just to walk in, I havent seen nobody walk through them doors that big in a long time. So it was good to see." Wade, James and Bosh played plenty of basketball this summer, and Spoelstra raved about their condition entering camp. Bosh is noticeably more muscular, Wade has worked to trim his body fat even below the notoriously demanding Heat standards, and James has said hes been ready to attack the new season since about mid-July anyway. The goal in Miami is obvious, of course. After losing to Dallas in six games last spring, nothing less than a title will satisfy, but at this point, the time isnt right for any rah-rah speeches, Wade said. For now, the Heat are simply happy to be back to work, given that a few weeks ago many players were bracing themselves for no season at all. "You kind of miss it, man," Wade said. "The smell of the gym, hearing the balls bounce, looking on the other end of the court, seeing the guys down there, working with the coaches youre working with, you miss it. It becomes a family and were just happy that were back." The practice uniforms were new, but other than that, very little seemed different about the Heat on Friday. The coaching staff is unchanged, the philosophy will be no different and the rotation figures to be relatively similar to what Miami had last season. So its a far cry from the start of camp a year ago, when the Heat worked James, Bosh, Miller and a slew of other new guys into the mix. And given that this will be an abbreviated training camp, theres a notion that Miami could have a leg up on teams that will have many changes from last season. James cautioned about overstating the importance of that. "Missing these two-and-a-half months, its no advantage for any team," James said. "We would love to have those months back where we could continue to come together as a team, but we have the same time as everyone else has and our guys are just going to try to work every day to get better as a team and be ready to play." NEW YORK, N.Y. - The troubled tenure of Jorge Vergara and Angelica Fuentes as owners of Chivas USA has ended with Major League Soccer purchasing the team. MLS said Thursday it had assumed operation of the team, which had the second-worst record in the league last year at 6-20-8 and averaged a league-low attendance of 8,366 at home. Vergara and Fuentes have controlled the Mexican club Chivas Guadalajara since 2002 and had a 50 per cent interest in Chivas USA when it was created in 2004 and started play the following year. The pair took operating control of Chivas USA in August 2012 when they bought out former partners Antonio and Lorenzo Cue, who had been running the team. "The original plan which we came up with in 2004 and executed in 05 was to extend one of soccers most venerable brands into the United States," MLS Commissioner Don Garber said during a conference call. "The concept was to take a team that in essence represented the hopes and dreams of Mexican soccer fans both in Mexico and the United States and try to extend that here to the United States. "Ultimately the concept didnt work out," he added. "I came up with the idea with folks here at the league. I dont believe it was the concept as much as there was some executional issues." The concept of a league owning a team is not unprecedented. An entity owned by Major League Baseball bought the Montreal Expos in 2002, moved the club to Washington, D.C., for the 2005 season and sold it to the Lerner family the following year. The NHL had operational control of the Phoenix Coyotes from 2009-13. MLS said Wilmer Cabrera, hired as coach on Jan. 9, will remain on the job. The league said it will sell the team to an ownership group committed to keeping the team in the Los Angeles area. Garber hopes to have a deal in place by the end of the year. "Sometimes it takes time to get this done. Were not in a rush," Garber said. Garber said the new ownership group must intend to build a new stadium, and he mentioned the site of the L.A. Sports Arena as a possibility. Chivas USA shares the StubHub Center with the Los Angeles Galaxy. David Beckham was not considered a possible buyer. The former Galaxy star exercised his option to purchase an expansion team in Miami. "I wonder if he would have thought differently if his option execution date was a year from now versus a year ago," Garber said. The team will use the Chivas USA name this year, then will get a new name and logo along with new owners. "When Angelica and I gained full operational control of the team for the first time 15 months ago, we were hopeful we would be able to turn it around," Vergara said in a statement. "However, there is only one Chivas de Guadalajara, and we have realized that it will require more time, further resources, and a level of commitment that would divert too much of our focus from our other business interests." Two former Chivas USA youth coaches, Daniel Calichman and Theothoros Chronopoulos, filed a discrimination lawsuit against the team last May in Los Angeles County Superior Court, claiming they were fired because they arent Mexican or Latino. "Its been resolved. Its no longer a pending case." Garber said. "It was resolved very recently." Slowed by injuries and never finding his way into Seattles defensive line rotation, Hill spent the majority of his rookie season as a spectator on the Seahawks sideline. That time spent watching and learning is finally paying off for Hill and the Seahawks.Hes more confident, sure. Hes healthy too now. He was banged up for a little while in there, Seattle coach Pete Carroll said. Were very fortunate that were coming together.Hill has quickly developed into an important part of Seattles pass rush that has improved dramatically the second half of the season. After having just 13 sacks in the first 10 games, the Seahawks have 20 sacks in the past five games. And Hill has been right in the middle of the improved quarterback chasing. Hill has been responsible for five of those 20 sacks.I didnt plan on being injured and stuff like that, but the more and more game experience I get the better I have a chance to be, Hill said. I just want to take advantage of all the opportunities Im getting. Even though Im playing a little bit better, I still feel I left a lot out on the field that I could have capitalized on.Hill has moved into the pass rushing defensive tackle role occupied a season ago by Clinton McDonald. Hill doesnt play a ton of snaps — hes been in for 45 per cent of the defensive plays this season — but when hes on the field the objective is simple: collapse the pocket and make the quarterback move around.Hill missed three games in the middle of the season with an ankle injury and Seattles pass rush picked up when he returned. He recorded his first sack in Week 12 against Arizona and had two sacks against San Francisco in Weeek 15.dddddddddddd Despite being blanked for the first 10 games, Hill is third on the team in sacks.Hes so explosive, so much quick twitch muscles that he could be one of the best inside rushers in the game right now. Hes figuring it out right now, Seattle defensive end Michael Bennett said. This is the best part of the year for him to finally get a chance. He got hurt early on and him getting the reps and doing it over and over and over and thats really what it is for him right now is being able to believe that he can do and go out there and play the way hes capable of playing.Part of Hills success can be attributed to Bennett, both during games and during the week. Bennett has spent time with Hill before and after practices this season passing along tips in rushing the quarterback to help the youngster. Its also helped grow the chemistry of how Seattles pass rush can best work.Last Sundays win over Arizona was a perfect example. On the play Hill got his one sack, Bennett occupied a pair of offensive linemen. That gave time for Hill to loop around unblocked and sack Arizonas Ryan Lindley. You have to rush as four. You cant go in there and rush by yourself. You have to have all four guys on the same page, Hill said. Youve got to have a feel. Its like a quarterback and his receivers being on time with the timing. All four guys have to know how each person rushes.NOTES: Carroll said it remains unlikely that WR Jermaine Kearse (hamstring) would return for Sundays finale vs. St. Louis. ... LT Russell Okung has a really good chance to get back this week. Okung missed last weeks game with a bruised lung. ... CB Tharold Simon suffered a shoulder injury vs. Arizona, but there is a chance he could play vs. the Rams. This will be an amazing recovery if he is able to do it, Carroll said.___Online: AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and www.twitter.com/AP_NFL Cheap China Jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys Cheap NHL Jerseys Cheap Jerseys From China China NFL Jerseys Cheap Jerseys Cheap Jerseys ' ' '

LONDON - A new womens grass-court tennis tournament will be held on the Spanish island of Mallorca starting in 2016. The 32-player event will take place two weeks before Wimbledon. WTA chair and CEO Stacey Allaster says the tournament "will strengthen the grass-court season leading up to Wimbledon." The complex on Mallorca — home to Rafael Nadal — will have five natural grass courts. Construction and maintenance will be in collaboration with The All England Lawn Tennis Club, which runs Wimbledon. The Mallorca tournament will be played in the second week of an expanded three-week grass-court swing between the French Open and Wimbledon. Jose Mauri AC Milan Maglia . Too strong. Too fast. Baylor was too much of just about everything for Creighton and Doug McDermott to handle. And because of it, the sixth-seeded Bears are rolling out of Texas toward California and the NCAA tournament Sweet 16 after an impressive 85-55 win Sunday night in the West Regional. Isaiah Austin and Canadian Brady Heslip each scored 17 points and Baylor used suffocating defence to shut down McDermott, ending the career of one of college basketballs most prolific scorers. "We did a good job making it tough on him," Bears coach Scott Drew said. McDermott, who averaged 27 points this season, finished with 15 but had just three in the first half as Baylor built a 20-point lead. McDermott ranks fifth on the NCAA career scoring list with 3,150 points. Baylor (26-11) had five players score in double figures and shot 64 per cent in one of the dominant performances of the tournament. The rest of the West bracket may want to pay attention to this one. A team that looked like a wreck six weeks ago with a 2-8 start in the Big 12 is brimming with confidence to match all that muscle in the lineup. "We take pride in people hating on us, and we love proving people wrong," Austin said. "Everybody has bought into the one goal that we have in mind and that is winning a national championship." Baylor plays No. 2 seed Wisconsin on Thursday in Anaheim. In Baylors two previous trips to the Sweet 16, it fell one game short of the Final Four. McDermott carried the Bluejays back to the round of 32 for the third year in a row, and had done it in spectacular style, leading the nation in scoring with a sublime shooting touch and uncanny knack to slither his way through defenders for layups and putback baskets. McDermott spurned the chance to turn pro after last season, and this was the year the Bluejays and their senior-laden lineup were expected to drive Creighton farther into the NCAA tournament than any Bluejays team before them. But Baylors defence gave him nothing: neither space to shoot nor even chances for his teammates to pass him the ball. And for all the talk about Creightons maturity and bonding, Baylor made the Bluejays look small and slow. "This is the worst weve played all season, and it just stinks that its the last one.dddddddddddd But that doesnt take away from all my memories here. Its tough to go out this way," McDermott said. Baylor came out blazing from long range, knocking down five 3-pointers in the first 7 minutes. Kenny Chery of Montreal made three and when Heslip, who was 0 for 6 in Fridays win over Nebraska, swished his first against Creighton, he mockingly shook the fingers on both hands as he loped back down the court. "We were just expecting it to be a fight, to be honest," said Heslip, whos from Burlington, Ont. McDermott, meanwhile, struggled to find any kind of space inside or out against Baylors zone defence and badly misfired on his first attempt, a baseline shot that missed everything. This rout was just beginning. The Bears flexed their muscle early and often with a lineup built for the rigours of the Big 12. Austin is 7-foot-1 and he teamed with 6-10 forward Cory Jefferson in the frontcourt. When Creighton missed a shot, the typical result was three Bears under the basket with no Bluejays around. Baylors bench was just as intimidating. When reserve forward Rico Gathers pushed his 6-foot-8, 270-pound frame through the lane for a layup, two Creighton defenders were powerless to stop him. By the time Baylor had built a 20-point halftime lead, McDermott had taken only three shots, made one and had two fouls. "We knew we had them on their heels," Austin said. "We wanted to step on their throat." Even when Creighton got a spark — Ethan Wragge made two 3-pointers early in the second half — Baylor simply matched basket for basket, denying any hopes of a rally. Soon it was showtime as Baylors lead kept growing. Jefferson slammed down an alley-oop dunk for a 58-34 lead with just more than 12 minutes to play. Gathers added another rim-rattler a few minutes later, his broad shoulders soaring to the basket to punctuate the night. When McDermott left the game with 2:31 to play, he hugged his father, Creighton coach Greg McDermott, before retreating to the bench and burying his face in a towel. "Im not sure it was Baylor being that good or us being that bad," Greg McDermott said. "Over the course of the season youre going to have a few clunkers. We had one at the wrong time."
